Crypto estate templates

These are the three blank forms the guides on this website keep referring to, now as printable PDFs you can keep with your estate documents. Each one is secret-free by design: it records that something exists and where, never the seed words, keys or passwords themselves.

1. The crypto estate map (for owners)

The map is the document that makes an inheritance plan work: what crypto exists, where the guidance lives, and who the first contacts are: with no secrets in it. Use it with crypto inheritance planning and the planning checklist.

The form covers:

• What exists, exchanges, self-custody wallets, hardware devices, recovery-material locations, DeFi positions, NFTs, crypto held by others;
• Where the guidance lives, the safe, bank box or lawyer’s vault, and what is inside it (locations only);
• First contacts, who to call per category, with names and details;
• 2FA and passphrase notes, only that they exist, never the codes or words;
• Review line, date and name for the yearly check.

2. The search log (after a death)

The search workbook’s discipline in a blank form: every finding classified as fact, inference or assumption, with what was found, where and when. 3. The chain-of-custody log (executors and professionals)

Who handled which device, document or backup, and when, the record that protects the estate against later disputes. Use it with chain of custody and evidence and the estate inventory.

How to use the templates

• Print or fill them in, they are blank forms with room to write; keep the completed ones with the estate file.
• Never write secrets in them. If a line ever invites you to write words, a key or a password, write “location: see [safe place]” instead.
• Show them to professionals, a notary, executor or adviser can work from the completed forms without ever seeing secret material.
• Review them, the estate map gets a yearly check; the search and custody logs stay with the estate file once the work is done.

What these templates are not

They are not legal documents and they do not replace a will, a trust or a notary’s advice. They are the working forms that support the process: the process itself is explained on the pages linked above.
